20 of the greatest groups and artists of 2002
March 3rd 2007 10:35
Thought you might enjoy some of my appallingly bad old writing.
1. Shakira- A very diverse range of musical movements on both her album and her belly.
2. Moby – Everyones’ favorite bald DJ comes out with a top new batch of songs.
3. Avril- Not pop or punk, but it still rocks.
4. U2 – After being around for so many years they’re still making great music A new song and a best of going sky high may make you recognize just how huge they’ve been over the years.
5. Eminem – Controversial rapper seems to have dropped down the explicitivety gimmick and tuned into better music.
6. Coldplay – Brilliant band have, against the odds, released a second album that more than measures up to their first.
7. Machine translations- Absolutely superb chillingly fresh music.
8. Machine gun fellatio- putting out a new album, they certainly have their share of great (if sex obsessed) music.
9. Augie March- Some top music coming out of this band this year.
10. Mum- Pronounced like m(a character Orble can't handle)m. Great Icelandic band, almost never played here. Makes you wonder what else we’ve missed.
11. Gary Jewels- Coming out with some top music for ‘Donnie Darco’. Very impressive.
12. DJ Sammy- Remixing the likes of ‘Heaven’, ‘Boys of Summer’ and ‘California Dreaming’ our man Sam gave us some good stuff.
13. JXL- How could you not like someone who remixes the king?
14. Badly Drawn Boy- Still bringing out great stuff with a new album and the ‘About a boy’ soundtrack to his achievement pile.
15. Red Hot Chili Peppers- Californian punk rock band brought out one of, if not their best album this year.
16. Crazy Penis- Remixing Willie Wonka and the chocolate factory music… how could you not love it?
17. 12, 000 Techniques- Aus Hip-hop comes a step further.
18. Kasey Chambers- The broken-hearted one brings out some great stuff.
19. Silverchair- Their music has matured so much. In terms of music, it’s like a really, really expensive wine.
20. George- Briz-rock band lives up to every single millimeter of the hype.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNDDDD THE WOODEN SPOON AWARD GOES TO………………
As horrible as it may be to poke the finger at my own country, Holly Valance has done nothing for the world of music. Typical, sex-dripping lyrics, over playing samples with a slight variation on the chorus, soft porn clips. She didn’t even lip sync very well at the ARIA’s.
