20 of the Greatest Songs and artist of 2001
March 9th 2007 23:15
Exposing my old bad writing, part 2.
1 Daft Punk – Brilliantly done album, with electronic sounds combined with electric guitar. Good film clip series. One of very few (two I think) French groups this year.
2 Alien Ant Farm – Pretty good band, pretty good music but brilliant film clips. Caused a small outbreak of inverted Mohawks.
3 Ben Folds – Lost the five but still making good music.
4 Hi-5 – A brilliant Aussie kids band. Currently touring with Eminem.
5 The John Butler Trio – Australian guitar trio with fantastic music.
6 Moby – Bald, Christian, Vegan DJ who can write great music. Watch out for the ‘Bodyrock.’
7 Gerling – Australian dancey band. Great beat, great songs, kinda twisted lyrics.
8 The Avalanches – Once describing themselvs as a ‘punky retarded’ band, taking clips from Marvin Gaye, Madonna and varoious Westerns, the newest dance sensation in Europe was practicly ignored here in their home country. More than just typical dance.
9 Gorillaz – Dan the Automaters latest experiment, being a cartoon group of four weired members. Good range of music.
10 Alex Lloyd – Great Australian music.
11 Matchbox twenty – Though not as good as their previous stuff, they’re still excellent. Great CD.
12 Nelly Furtardo – A female solo artist who writes her own stuff, doesn’t wear skimpy clothes, has a cool accent, DJ’s and hasn’t had a bad song to date. They’re not all excellent but none bad released yet.
13 Da Mutz – Though thoughaly annoying and irritating Whazzup ended up stuck in my head.
14 Cake – With great music, twisted lyrics and brilliant electric guitar the group responsible for ‘the distance’ have made another great album.
15 U2 – After being around for so many years they’re still making great music. A mix of new and old, like the songs Elevation and Stuck in a moment ect.
16 Toploader – One hit not-quite-a-wonder dancing in the moonlight put smiles on peoples faces. In a land of Rap and rock, happy songs come rarely.
17 Nikelback – Pretty good music.
18 Eminem – Controversial rapper wins a place for his song Stan. More correctly, the story behind it. Very rarely do songs have stories behind them anymore. Yes, it is the story of a creepy fan who drives of a bridge, but it’s a story all the same. PS all people who belived number 4 should change their name to Mr/Ms/Mrs Gulible.
19 City High – A rap group who didn’t get their popularity from self worship or shock value.
20 Coldplay – great music, At one point, Fred Durst’s favourite album. Seriously.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNDDDD THE WOODEN SPOON AWARD GOES TO………………
Li’l bow wow – Terrible, steriotypical rap, only popular to 11-14 year old girls who need to get a life and 11-14 year old boys who need one even more. “Sung” by annoying self worshiping kid who obviously thinks moving your hands left and right is a pathway to coolness. Owners of the CD or single need a good hard look in the mirror.
