Blogger Prompt: How much effort do you put into your blog posts?

December 17th 2006 07:15
Hey guys, just a little heads up, I'm also posting here from now on, but the blog is under Brenton's name so all queries should be directed at him (He's going to be getting lots of complaints about me being involved with this blog isn't he?).

Anyways, I thought this would be an interesting little prompt.

How much effort do you put into your posts? Do you simply type something up in the space of five minutes, or do you prefer slaving over your posts for the better part of five hours?

I myself don't necessarily spend too long on posts, but never too short either. Sometimes I spend about twenty minutes (never less), but I have given posts well over five hours over a period of days.

My posts usually take between half an hour to an hour. However, I usually have a rough plan of what I am going to say in my head before I start writing - that process can go on for hours while I am doing other, less interesting tasks!

I just write whatever I feel like writing. I never sit here and just bang something out, but if I;m doing something else, and an idea for a good entry strikes, then I will stop what I am doing and write about it. I never spend more than a half an hour.

I put about 20 mins in average. Longer is I really care about what I'm writing about. Most that time is serching flickr, adding links, formatting. The actual artilces comer very easily.

I routinely put in a half hour on my posts, though I may queue up shorter posts to ensure something gets posted everyday.

Sometimes, it's not the writing that takes the time, but the pictures and links...

i am a bad girl..i write whatever comes into my mind..i know very sporadic but i believe that to think and write would be holding myself back and think about being "correct" and "right"..so i let myself loose..

Brenton, you would like having 'queeries' directed at you after Ahmed's had them, wouldn't you.
How long did this little piece take you, Ahmed?
It's a grate read and I mean grate.
You two bum-buddies piss me off no end.
And, no you don't need to know who I am.
Isn't it pleasing to have a secret admirer?
Yours forever my darlings,
Anon.
You ubiquitous fucks.

Anonomous, you may find some value in clicking HERE I'd love for you to PM myself or perhaps Ahmed and tell us exectly from where this irrational hatred stems. Also, purely out of curiosity, how much effort do you put into your blog posts?

Bhumika, haha, I do that to sometimes.

Cibby, do you use creativecommons.org, or flickr? IF not, give it a try, it might make finding recourses easier

Hi Guys,

...about 30 mins to an hour... it's hard to say because I am constantly being interrupted... sometimes I can plonk one together in 10 minutes... all the words and pieces fall onto the page and the thing writes itself... other times (like environmental and dream analysis) it can take me hours... depends on which site, which day and which subject on how much research is involved...other times a poem or story can write itself in under five minutes and the exact pictures I need for a post can materialise... just like that...

... there is really no set (hard and fast) rule on this for me... much like most things...

good question though for everyone to see,
especially those with less confidence in their skills ...
who may well be wondering...

Lilla...

To Anon, erm, get a life? Ok, honestly I think I know who you are, but I won't be pointing fingers.

This post took me 10 minutes to do, I admit I rushed it.

Anyway, thanks for your inputs everybody who didn't throw in vulgar language in what they wrote

Generally I put in about an hour on a post and just review whatever I have watched the night before.

Agree with Cib, sometimes finding images and videos takes more time than the typing itself.

It really depends on 'where' I am writing from. If I am angry or just having a sort of blah day, it takes longer. If I am happy or really sad, it usually comes together pretty fast. It also depends on if I go a little link crazy or throw a video in.

Bout an hour. Sometimes more if I'm feeling the perfectionist and annoying myself.

We can all relate LaurenD, in a biiiiiiiig way, well I can relate, can't speak for the rest of you guys, but I hope I can relate cos it would suck if I was on my own out here with Lauren...

About 1 hour to write it.
Another en mintues to upload if there are pics.
And another hour kicking myself for all the spelling and grammer errors I made.
I am a creative speller.

Damo, you should do your posts on MSWord, built in spell checker = saving time.

depends... sometimes it can take me two hours to do a single blog, sometimes it'll only take me five minutes.

I spend a lot of time on them though, sometimes to the point where it really wears thin.

Even that can't help with some words.
American spelling really bugs me.
Passive sentences, what the crap?

Some posts take me a week to complete. The others take 2 days. Sometimes I still modify the posts a while after they've been published. I'm an edit freak.

Some of mine take ages. Hours and hours. The bulk of it i make up as I go, but fine tune for an hour or so. Finding photos and stuff also can be time consuming.

Generally about an hour, and like others finding the pics that i want to use takes a while ... Sometimes I'll not know what to write or stop and start and then it pours out in 15 mins ... Othertimes if I'm feeling particularly passionate about a topic I'll tweak it over a couple of hours ... I would like to spend less time, but I can't help myself ...

Depends on the circumstances, but usually much longer than I ever intend.

Also massively much longer if I go over my internet limit and end up on dial up speed which is often the case, especially with research and pictures.

I actually try to set up a whole lot of posts in order so I can get on with other commitments - especially these days, but that in itself takes many hours upon hours. The better part of the day has ended up being devoted to my blog to the detriment of my washing and other necessary tasks.

The most time consumeing part of blogging for me is writing and drawing my comics, which tends to take between 3 and 7 hours of active work, not counting the research behind them. Writing the actuall blog entry takes me between 15 minutes to an hour and a half. And then I usually find something wrong with my posts, spelling or whatever so I go back and edit them.
