A writer writes and that is all that sets them apart.
If they cease to write they cease to be a writer.

What has this got to do with honor?
Nothing.

There are plenty of dishonorable people who can manage to write.

I'm thinkng in the respect that say Drs are considered more honorable than Arms dealers - where do Writers sit?

I think there is a confusion in terms here: Honor and Status.

Honor pertains to a set of values whether they be moral, ethical or courage etc.

Status pertains to what others think of a person. Having doctor in the family may offer status but if he happens to be Dr Im a Secret Torturer then what?

Arms dealers have lower status in some circle only but in others they get money and live a high life. Is it an honest job?

Hence I am not very concerned with the status of a job. Doctors, Proctors and Politicians are everywhere but not all perform their duties with honor. I see no greater honor in a person being a writer than one digging in a rice field. If the work is honest then it is just as honorable.

Unfortunately people like the concept of status so much that try to elevate one profession above the other. As if there is some kind of pecking order in the universe.

In my view writers are not special people. They are just people who write, just as farmers are people who farm. Only in your head does it matter whether one is more honorable than the other.

honour and status are relative so it's a moot question, everyone has their own 'perfect' opinion.

I'd say it depends on what type of writer you are.
