Is This For Real?

She was right behind me, sitting three seats back in the bus. Every once in a while I'd try to sneak a glimpse of her, even if only temporary. I didn't want her to know I was trying to get glimpses of her though she may have already figured it out, after all, we'd been taking the same bus for the past three months and everytime I had endeavoured to grab a few gazes at her, microseconds in length so that she wouldn't notice.
My friends would just ask me why I wouldn't talk to her, and everytime I'd reply the same 'she's beautiful and smart, I'm ugly and stupid'. Even today I'm not sure how true my statement was or to what degree I agree with it. Was, or is my self esteem really so low?
Stuart was on the bus, he was my classmate, he was also a bit of an idiot. He sat just opposite of her and called my name. I realized this was the best opportunity for me to turn around on my seat and have a better view of her with the added bonus of looking less suspicious.
Just then she called my name, I don't know why, she just did, and said she wanted to talk to me, asked if it was 'alright if you come one seat closer', which I did, and put the bag on the seat next to me. She then asked if it was alright if she come a seat closer and in my typical geeky fashion I replied with 'of course, of course', in a voice that had more breath than voice.
Finally she asked if she could sit next to me, stumbling, I took the bag from the seat besides me and put it in front, the seat where I was sitting on before getting closer to her. She came up and sat next to me and looked at me with a sort of half a smile. It was late, twilight time actually, the lights from the bus coupled with the sun set that was outside my vantage point created a sort of effect I was never fond of. For some reason her being there, sitting right next to me for some reason I can't explain made me like this lighting effect, even though I associated it with childhood nightmares.
Then she said, 'I kind of like you, as in like, like', it was like I just got shot, the wind was knocked right out of me. Naturally I had to play it cool, Stuart was there after all, I did try to control that smile of mine, make it look like a 'whateva' sort of thing, but I couldn't, she noticed and was holding back giggles. So I just said 'Really? Wow, thats just, amazing, you're not kidding?',
'no, I'm not'
'Well it sounds like you are, 'like, like', come on, thats pre-school talk, who put you up to it?', with a laugh she said 'no one'.
I could have sat there for a hundred years and just went on with this 'conversation', and I almost did, if she didn't notice that we almost missed our stop. She zoomed right out of the bus, and I had to literally sprint to catch up to her.
When I finally caught up to her in the cold twilight I was basically panting, she was still walking really fast, 'wait, I know, my friends told you about how I feel about you and you're just playing with me',
'no',
'No, really, is this for real?'
'yes'
'So what happens now?'
'we go to class, like always'
'oh right'
'Wheres your bag?'
