Labrador

Write a story based on two random words.
Mine were Peace and Lab.
18th June, 6293. The explosion of the sun has finally come. Eight hundred people are now left on Earth. There was a delay on the lift-off of the final ship, the LOCTWAR. There are now seven seconds to blast off, and fifteen seconds before the explosion of the sun. There is a fearful stampede of people in the last second panic.
Few people saw him, most who did, did not survive. They were either trampled in the rush or just stood there and stared at his beauty until the sun was gone. He was nothing particularly amazing although he was unlike the others of his sort. He was a Labrador, jet-black with hair that gave the impression of giving off its own light.
Three hundred years ago this would have meant nothing except that yet another animal had been genetically modified to fulfill the humanized view of perfection. But now; now it meant something more than that. There were no more animals, no important animals at least, left on Earth. Important being any creatures used for human pleasure, consumption or comfort. No, the dog was special. It seemed enveloped in its own gigantic shimmering glow – a glow that was its soul. That’s why the people stared at him. By now there were just 5 seconds left and 600 people still not aboard the ship.
Two seconds – and a boy, mealy ten years old bolts to the door of the LOCTWAR. Although only ten, society has already taught him the important skills of life. How to fight, work, run away, obey, copy, memorize, kill, ignore, be silent, hate and sacrifice. Run as he might he does not make it to the door. Before he can get there he trips over the Labrador and lands sprawled in a quivering heap on the floor. He pulls himself up and continues to run but to his horror, he is running in vain. He is just in time to witness the firing up of the engines just before the ship flies off into the infinite sky.
The boy turns around. He thinks it is the dogs’ fault he did not get on the ship. “The dog will die,” he thinks. But something stops him from killing it. The dog looks at him eye to eye. The child then sees something in his eyes that man has been incapable of for decades. Love. He steps back and tries to comprehend this.
Then he whispers to the lab. “I’m sorry”.
A soft voice enters his head and he knows the dogs’ heart is talking to him.
“Hold me, and I will take you to a better place”.
The boy held him. At that moment the sun blew up.
As the sun ended the 500 people left on Earth died.
But the boy and the dog lived.
Forever
